What Size Tent Do I Need for My Event in San Diego?

The first thing you have to figure out is how much space you have for your tent set up. The right tent size depends on your guest count, seating arrangement, and whether you need room for a dance floor, buffet, bar, stage, or other equipment. Contact us with your event details for a recommendation.
Below are some of the most popular tent sizes along with seating capacities, how much shade they provide, and set up space needed.

20X20 High Peak Tent Frame: Can fit 33-57 guest, 400SQF of shade, you'll need a space of 25X25FT in order to set up.

20X30 High Peak Tent Frame: Can fit 50-86 guest, 600SQF of shade, and you'll need a space of 30X40FT in order to set up.

20X40 High Peak Tent Frame: Can fit 80-100 guest, 800SQF of shade, and you'll need a space of 30X45 in order to set up.

Do I Need a Permit?

For Tents bigger than 20X20 or 400SQF, a permit is required. Below we provide information on how you can take out your permit.

1. PLEASE COMPLETE BOTH SIDES OF THIS PERMIT APPLICATION.

2.ATTACH THE DIMENSIONED SITE AND/OR FLOOR PLAN WE PROVIDE YOU AND EMAIL THE COMPLETED PERMIT PACKAGE TO: sdfdevents@sandiego.gov

3. PAY FOR THE PERMIT APPLICATION AND EMAIL US A COPY PLEASE.

Can Multiple Tents Connect Together?

Yes! Tents and Things usually connects tents together for the bigger events we set up. When connecting tents, you have the option of adding “RAIN GUTTERS” these will catch the water in between tents in case it rains the day of your event.

How Long Is My San Diego Tent Rental?

24 Hours, however we do offer multi-day rentals or if you only need the tent for a few hours that's not a problem! Just let us know.

How Will My Tent Be Anchored in San Diego?

This depends on the surface type we will be setting up on, please make sure to select the right surface when making your reservation.

Grass Setup: If you are setting up on grass, Tents & Things will have someone from 811 (SDG&E) go have all water, gas, electrical, and septic lines marked before we arrive to setup and stake down the tent with our 36inch stakes.

Concrete Setups: There is an extra charge for concrete setups. Tents & Things offers 3 options when setting up on concrete. Please let us know which option works best for you depending on your set up area.

500LB Concrete Blocks: The fastest & safest way to set up tent rentals. We put 500LB concrete blocks for each leg the tent has. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF THERES ANY STEEP INCLINES OR STEPS THAT OUR TEAM WILL NEED TO FACE & PLEASE SEND US PICTURES OF SAID INCLINES OR STEPS.

Drill In Stakes or Anchors: If we cannot use concrete blocks for your concrete or asphalt set up, we will ask you if we can drill in 36inch stakes for your tent set up. NOT TO WORRY! WE WILL COVER ANY & ALL HOLES WE MADE USING ASPHALT PLUGS, IT'LL BE LIKE WE WERE NEVER THERE.

Water Barrels: If we cannot absolutely use blocks or anchors for your concrete tent set up, you have the option to choose water barrels. You must have you're water hose within 100 feet of the area our team is setting up at.

What Are the Differences Between High Peak Tents and Canopies?

A high peak tent is a heavy-duty, commercial elegant structure with a steep, dramatic roof slope used for long-term or formal events. A canopy is a lightweight, open-air, low-peak shade cover designed for fast, temporary setup at casual gatherings and small gatherings.

When shopping around for your Tent, please make sure you know the differences between a Commercial Grade Tent and a Carport Tent. In San Diego, some people advertise Carport Tents as “Commercial Grade” and unfortunately, they are not. While they will still provide you temporary shade, they are not ideal for rain protection, high winds, or at upscale events.
