Tent Rentals in San Marcos

We rent high peak tents in San Marcos from $500 for a 20×20, and setup and takedown by our crew come with every one. A 20×20 holds about 33 seated or 66 standing, and the 20×40 at $950 handles about 66 seated.

Tent and canopy permits here are handled by the city’s Building Division, and applications must include structural and hold-down information. Call the division before booking to confirm whether your size and site need a permit. Park events follow separate rules, since the city limits canopy size at shelters and does not allow staking.

  • Crew installs and removes the tent
  • Panorama sidewalls from $50
  • Building Division: 760-744-1050 ext. 3244

Canopy Rentals in San Marcos

Canopy rentals in San Marcos start at $70 for a 10x10, the largest single canopy a city park shelter allows without a Special Event Permit. For a backyard, a 10x20 at $120 seats about 16 at round tables.

At park shelters, most groups may set up two 10x10 canopies without walls, and large reservations may use three. Nothing may be staked into park ground, so sandbags are recommended. All setup and breakdown must happen on the reservation day.

  • Two 10x10s match the standard shelter allowance
  • Carnival canopy $100, carnival booth $150

Table and Chair Rentals in San Marcos

A 6ft banquet table rents for $12 in San Marcos and seats six, and white folding chairs are $3 each. Rounds and 8ft banquets seat eight at $15, and 33-inch cocktail tables suit standing receptions.

Packages pair tables with chairs, and the 60-inch round set at $40 is a common choice for seated dinners. Kids tables and chairs fit birthday parties, and Lifetime chairs come in white or black. If you want the crew to arrange the layout, table and chair setup is a paid add-on.

Tablecloths, Spandex Covers and Linen Lead Times

Linen rentals cover three table sizes: floor-length cloths for 6ft banquets, 8ft banquets and 60-inch rounds are $25 each. Cocktail tables take a $20 spandex cover.

Plan linens at least two weeks out. A cloth that reaches the floor looks more formal than a bare table and hides the frame underneath. Count your tables by size first, then match one linen to each so nothing is left uncovered on the day.

Giant Lawn Game Rentals in San Marcos

Giant lawn games in San Marcos rent from $40, and the six-game lineup runs from Jenga and ring toss to cornhole and yard pong. The lawn game party package at $155 bundles several together.

Give yourself at least one month of lead time when reserving games. City parks require a shelter reservation for groups of 25 or more, so if games are part of a park picnic, secure the shelter first. Cornhole wants an open run of flat ground, while Jenga fits any level corner.

Concession Machine Rentals in San Marcos

Popcorn, cotton candy and snow cone machines rent for $100 apiece in San Marcos, each stocked with supplies for 50 servings. Extra servings are added in batches of 50.

Each machine runs on one 110V outlet. In city parks, generators are allowed only at certain shelters and only to power a jumper, so ask the city about power at your shelter before booking a machine there. At home, the 100ft cord reaches from a garage outlet, and a $20 carnival theme table finishes the stand.

Carnival Games for Fundraisers and Field Days

Carnival game rentals include the fish bowl toss and milk bottle bash at $110 each, plus the carnival ring toss for $125. You supply the prizes.

Field days, PTA nights and church fundraisers get the most use out of a set of three. Assign each booth a volunteer, keep prizes in a bin behind the game, and add a carnival canopy and booth so the row looks like a midway. Popcorn or cotton candy machines nearby help draw a crowd.

Event Lighting and Generator Rentals in San Marcos

For San Marcos backyard events after sunset, 25ft string lights rent for $30 and 30ft globe light strands with eight bulbs are $40. Both drape easily across a tent, patio or fence.

When the nearest outlet is out of reach, our $100 generator provides 3,900 running watts on gasoline or 3,500 on propane, for as long as 18 hours based on load. A 100ft extension cord is $20. City parks allow generators only at certain shelters to power a jumper, so this setup is best suited to private property.

5-star reviews on Google

We had the best experience with Tents & Things for our daughter’s first birthday! From the very beginning, they were so easy to work with, responsive, organized, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect.

The rentals were beautiful, clean, and exactly what we envisioned. They arrived on time, set everything up seamlessly, and made the entire process completely stress-free. It was one less thing for us to worry about, which meant so much while planning a big event.

If you’re looking for a company that’s reliable, professional, and truly goes above and beyond, I can’t recommend Tents & Things enough.

I had a fantastic experience renting tables and chairs from Tents and Things for a backyard dinner party I hosted. Selvin was incredibly responsive throughout the process, and his prices—including delivery—were very reasonable.

The equipment was in perfect condition, and Selvin was punctual for both delivery and pickup. He went above and beyond by offering to set everything up for me and even brought extra chairs just in case I needed them. I highly recommend Tents and Things for your next event!

Planning a party in San Marcos: permits and park rules

San Marcos spells out its park shelter rules in detail, so read these before choosing a park over a backyard.

1

Tent and canopy permits

The San Marcos Fire Department routes tent and canopy applications through the city's Building Division, and each application must include structural and hold-down information. Ask the Building Division whether your tent size and location need a permit.

Building Division: 760-744-1050 ext. 3244. Fire Prevention: 760-744-1050 ext. 3400. Call for current fees.

2

Canopies at park shelters

Groups without a reservation and small or medium shelter reservations may put up two 10x10 pop-ups (10x20 total) without walls; large reservations may use three in a 10x30 layout. Any canopy bigger than 10x10 needs a Special Event Permit. Nothing may be staked into park ground, so sandbags are recommended, and camping tents are not allowed.

3

Jump houses and generators

Reservations are required for groups of 25 or more and for any party with an inflatable. Inflatables are limited to specific shelters, at parks such as Hollandia, Las Abejas, Simmons, Walnut Grove and Woodland, with a 15x28 ft maximum and no water features. Generators are allowed only at those parks, and only to power the jumper.

4

Alcohol and amplified sound

Both are off-limits in city parks unless approved through a Special Event Permit, which also covers food trucks and crowds above a shelter's stated capacity.

Special events: 760-744-9000 ext. 3505. City staff set fees based on your event.

5

Same-day park setups

All setup, breakdown and cleanup at a park shelter must happen on the reservation day. Shelters book online at least 8 days ahead or in person at least 4 days ahead, so lock in the shelter before you finalize rentals.
