Tent Rentals in El Cajon
Our tent rentals in El Cajon begin at $500 for a 20×20 high peak tent, with delivery, setup and takedown included. Step up to a 20×30 for about 50 seated guests or a 20×40 for about 66.
Permits are the main sizing factor. The city’s tent handout requires a permit for tents over 400 sq ft, so a 20×20 sits right at the limit while the 20×30 and 20×40 go over. An exception exists for some open-sided tents up to 700 sq ft, so ask Heartland Fire & Rescue before you book.

See what our customers say about us
We had the best experience with Tents & Things for our daughter’s first birthday! From the very beginning, they were so easy to work with, responsive, organized, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect.
The rentals were beautiful, clean, and exactly what we envisioned. They arrived on time, set everything up seamlessly, and made the entire process completely stress-free. It was one less thing for us to worry about, which meant so much while planning a big event.
If you’re looking for a company that’s reliable, professional, and truly goes above and beyond, I can’t recommend Tents & Things enough.
Would highly recommend! Good communication both during ordering and day of. On-time delivery and pick-up, very professional.
I had a fantastic experience renting tables and chairs from Tents and Things for a backyard dinner party I hosted. Selvin was incredibly responsive throughout the process, and his prices—including delivery—were very reasonable.
The equipment was in perfect condition, and Selvin was punctual for both delivery and pickup. He went above and beyond by offering to set everything up for me and even brought extra chairs just in case I needed them. I highly recommend Tents and Things for your next event!

Planning a party in El Cajon: permits and park rules
Before an El Cajon event, check two things: the size of your tent and whether your venue is a city park. Here is what we found in the city's own documents.
Tent size and fire permits
The City of El Cajon's tent requirements handout says a permit is required for tents and membrane structures over 400 sq ft. Our 20x20 tent and every canopy are 400 sq ft or less; the 20x30 and 20x40 go over. The handout also lists an exception for open-sided tents up to 700 sq ft that meet clearance rules, so ask whether your layout qualifies.
Fire services in El Cajon are run by Heartland Fire & Rescue. The city's fire permit page lists 619-441-1600 for Heartland and 619-441-1726 for customer service. Call for current fees.
No alcohol in city parks
El Cajon Municipal Code section 9.22.030 bans possessing or drinking alcoholic beverages in city-owned parks. Plan any toast or bar service for a backyard or a private venue instead.
Reserving a park spot
The city's parks page says gazebo reservations at Judson Park go through the Ronald Reagan Community Center. Ask staff about canopy, bounce house and amplified sound rules when you book, since those are not posted on the parks page.
Ronald Reagan Community Center: (619) 441-1673.
Power for machines and lights
Each concession machine needs one 110V outlet. If your spot has no reachable outlet, add our generator and a 100ft extension cord.
Measuring the yard
Measure before you pick a size: a 20x20 tent needs a 25x25 ft level area, a 20x30 needs 30x40 ft and a 20x40 needs 30x45 ft. The tent calculator turns a guest count into a recommended size.
Popular events we set up
Family reunions
Big extended-family gatherings fit well under a 20x40 tent with 8ft banquet tables for a potluck line and round tables for eating.
Church and community picnics
Canopies over serving tables, a popcorn machine and a few lawn games keep a church or club picnic simple to run.
Graduation open houses
A 10x20 canopy, a table and chair package and globe lights handle a driveway or backyard open house from afternoon into evening.
School fundraisers
Midway games, a carnival booth and a snow cone machine give a PTA fundraiser its own carnival corner.
